High Mortality rate for Black Mothers giving Birth in Hospitals

Judge Hatchet's daughter-in-law died shortly after giving birth in the hospital and the popular Judge is now seeking justice of her own.

Some are blaming it on racism experienced in the daily lives of black women, however if women and babies are healthy before going into the hospital why do they not come out of the hospital the same way?

I think the greatest issue here is that black women are not as educated about pregnancy and birth as they once were before integration, so they now leave the wellbeing of their children and themselves in the hands of another. So the best question they can ask themselves is this:

Does this person I'm putting in charge of my health and the health of my baby have our best interest at heart and are they as competent as I believe them to be....

If you ask

me?... They are killing our men and boys in the street and our mothers/babies in the hospitals and clinics.

What is the solution to this impending issue?

I think the solution is simple, birth where you KNOW you are safe. This rate dwindles down significantly for black mothers who birth at home with a midwife, doula, or unassisted.

Know what to expect when you go to the hospital. The mortality rate is high for a reason. The cesarean rate is high for a reason. Know what to say no to and what you need to request if in deed you are high risk and cannot birth at home.

Finally, we must return to our God, so that we can be confident in doing what God created us as women to do. Bring Life into the world.
